Alston & Bird LLP has announced that Madison Jellins and Kevin Trock joined as partners in the firm's Intellectual Property Litigation Group. Jellins and Trock will be located in the law firm's new office in Palo Alto, CA.

Jellins' and Trock's arrival continues Alston & Bird's expansion into the California market. On Aug. 1, the firm opened its doors in Silicon Valley, and on Sept. 1 closed its acquisition of the Los Angeles firm Weston Benshoof Rochefort Rubalcava & MacCuish LLP. Alston & Bird's presence on the West Coast is part of the firm's recent expansion of four offices across the country.

Jellins, previously a partner at Townsend and Townsend and Crew LLP, brings almost two decades of experience in pharmaceutical and life sciences patent litigation and strategic counseling. She is a member of the Patent Bar and spent two years on the Federal Circuit clerking for former Chief Judge Helen W. Nies.

Trock, previously a partner at KPL Gates, will also enhance Alston & Bird's capabilities in the pharmaceutical/biotech litigation area as well as intellectual property litigation in general. He has served as lead counsel in both jury and non-jury trials involving a wide variety of IP issues, including copyright and trademark matters as well as patent disputes. He is a member of the Patent Bar.

“Madison's and Kevin's expertise in patent litigation generally in the field of pharmaceutical and biotech patent litigation specifically adds depth and versatility to Alston & Bird's expanding IP practice in the Silicon Valley. Their special insights and deep understanding of these emerging issues complement the existing practice in Silicon Valley, which is focused on the electronics and semiconductor industries” said Randall Alan, managing partner of the Silicon Valley office.

The Intellectual Property Owners Association (“IPO”) has named its IP Licensing Committee, in which Duane Morris LLP partner Tom Meagher serves as vice chair, the 2008 IPO Outstanding Committee of the Year. Meagher is a partner in the firm's Intellectual Property Practice Group in its New York office.

The Intellectual Property Owners Association is a trade association representing companies and individuals in all industries and fields of technology who own or are interested in intellectual property rights. The organization's IP Licensing Committee focuses on issues related to patent, technology/trade secret, software/copyright and trademark, licensing and other legal and business issues. In choosing the committee for this honor, the IPO cited its successful implementation of projects focusing on licensing topics, including its involvement in association conferences.

Meagher focuses his practice on patent litigation, licensing and prosecution, and has extensive experience working with electronic, computer, telecommunications, and biomedical technology companies.
