CASE CAPTION: John Hughes v. E! Entertainment Television Inc. and E! Online, L.A. Superior Court, # BC335300.

CAUSES OF ACTION: Broadcast slander per se; libel per se based on imputation of crime; false light; and negligence.

COMPLAINT ALLEGATIONS: The defendants broadcast a story in July 2004, alleging that the plaintiff was stalking actress Meg Ryan. This was false; he was never arrested or charged with the felony of being a stalker. He was arrested, charged and convicted only on trespassing, a misdemeanor. Articles about this also appeared on eonline.com. The articles and broadcast falsely stated that the plaintiff showed up in a lot of creepy places and that there was a frightening encounter.

RELIEF SOUGHT: Damages and an injunction against further publications insinuating that the plaintiff is a stalker.

PLAINTIFF'S COUNSEL: Daniel E. Hoffman and John D. Hardy of Van Nuys, CA's Schuler & Brown (818-756-0999).
