The Federal Equipment Marketplace: Vendors and OEMs Benefit from Finance Company Relationships

BY John Cyphers
January 06, 2006

The federal equipment marketplace is one of the bright spots in the economy. Many vendors and OEMs are now working with finance companies that have federal experience to compete for more than $45 billion in transactions that potentially qualify for a lease-financing solution. The size and volume of these transactions are expected to grow over the next several years.

The market provides opportunities to a range of vendors, including sellers of information technology and medical equipment as well as furniture and modular buildings, energy, and transportation solutions, among others. Virtually all U.S. government agencies depend on federal lease-financing programs for the procurement of essential equipment and related services.

Equipment types eligible for financing can range from the relatively modest, such as copiers and printers to the more complex, such as healthcare systems and commercial aircraft. By most measures, federal lease-financing offers vendors and OEMs one of the largest opportunities for equipment sales growth. Including lease-financing as an option on an equipment procurement proposal can increase the probability of the proposal being selected or further evaluated.
