Fulbright & Jaworski L.L.P. partner Jane Snoddy Smith has been selected as the national president-elect of the Commercial Real Estate Women Network ('CREW'), a professional organization committed to advancing the success of women in commercial real estate. Smith, a member of this newsletter's Board of Editors, has long been involved in CREW, which formed in the 1980s to bring together women involved in commercial real estate for professional development and networking. Smith was selected by her peers to become the organization's national president-elect in January and will remain in that role for a year before taking over as the organization's president in 2009.

 

Veteran real estate and business transaction attorney Samuel R. Spira has joined Venable LLP as a partner in the firm's expanding Los Angeles office.

Spira brings high-level transactional work for major residential, office, and retail projects in Southern California to Venable's already robust national real estate practice. He is the fourth partner with extensive real estate experience to join Venable in the last several months, and he is the sixth new attorney to join the firm's Los Angeles office since January of this year. Spira's work has involved structuring transactions and ownership interests and negotiating construction contracts.

 

Kennedy Covington Lobdell & Hickman, L.L.P. is pleased to announce that three new attorneys have joined the firm, two of whom will join the Real Estate Department. Gina Collias has joined as an associate in the Development Section of the Real Estate Department. Located in Kennedy Covington's Charlotte, NC, office, Collias will focus her practice on real estate development and leasing. Jack Wiggen also has joined as an associate in the Development Section of the Real Estate Department. Located in the Research Triangle Park, NC, office, he will focus on real estate development. Wiggen has experience in commercial real estate and real estate financing, including drafting and negotiating lease agreements.

 

Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP has announced that Jordan J. Metzger has joined the firm as a partner in the real estate and finance practice group in New York. Metzger brings extensive experience in real estate transactions, with an emphasis on acquisitions, development, joint ventures, and financing.
