Buchalter Nemer (Los Angeles): Mary Rose has joined the firm as a partner in the Los Angeles office. Rose, who was previously with Proskauer Rose, is a member of the firm's health care practice. She received her J.D. from New York University School of Law in 1978.

Ropes & Gray (Palo Alto, CA): David Saul, formerly of Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati, has joined Boston-based Ropes & Gray as a partner in its Palo Alto office. His practice is primarily focused on life science companies, including those in the medical device, specialty pharmaceutical and biotechnology fields. Saul will be involved in developing the firm's life sciences practice on the West Coast. The 850-lawyer firm has about 50 life science attorneys nationwide.

O'Melveny & Myers (Los Angeles): The firm has promoted David Deaton to partner. Deaton is a member of the health care and life sciences practice. He received his J.D. in 1999 from Southern Methodist University Dedman School of Law.

Davis Wright Tremaine (Los Angeles): The firm has elevated to partner Jill Gordon, an attorney who specializes in health law and life sciences and who earned her J.D. in 1996 from Washington University School of Law.

Hogan & Hartson (Los Angeles): Robert F. Church, former associate general counsel at Amgen Inc., has joined Hogan & Hartson's Los Angeles office. Church, who will become a partner in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology practice, will help develop the Washington-based firm's West Coast life sciences practice. He focuses his practice on life sciences, clinical trials and biotechnology intellectual property practices.

Phillips Lytle (Buffalo, NY): Nathan A. Schachtman has joined the products liability, medical devices and toxic torts practices as partner in the firm's Buffalo and New York offices. He was previously a partner in the Philadelphia office of Newark, NJ-based McCarter & English.

Brown McCarroll (Austin, TX): William E. 'Bill' Hopkins has joined Brown McCarroll in Austin as of counsel in the health-care section. His practice focuses on administrative, regulatory and litigation defense of licensed health-care professionals and health-care entities.

Crowell & Moring (Washington): Karen A. Gibbs has joined the firm's antitrust and health care groups as partner in the firm's Irvine, CA, office. She previously served as lead in-house counsel at Applied Medical Resources Corp., a global medical device company headquartered in California.

Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough (Raleigh, NC): Ross Sallade, who concentrates his practice in the firm's health care divison, has been elected to the partnership.
