Hogan & Hartson Advises MySpace in Landmark Music Venture
Hogan & Hartson represented News Corp.'s MySpace in a landmark joint venture with three major music labels, Sony BMG Music Entertainment, Universal Music Group and Warner Music Group, to create MySpace Music, the firm announced recently.
The new company will let users purchase music by download to any portable digital-music player, and provide an e-commerce platform for such offerings as merchandise and ticket sales, Hogan & Hartson said in a news release on its Web site.
The labels' artists can also provide fans with digital downloads, mobile ringtones, short-messaging service ('SMS') and other products from MySpace profiles.
MySpace Music will capitalize on its music community's 30 million unique monthly users and more than five million artists, the firm noted.
A diverse team of Hogan & Hartson lawyers, led by Los Angeles partner Robert Jesuele and New York partner Maureen Hanlon, represented MySpace, the law firm said. Los Angeles associate Jale Lowery and New York associate Caryn Groce assisted.
