Family Court (New York): Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg has appointed Jeanette Ruiz and Carol Sherman to the Family Court. Judge Ruiz was first appointed by Gov. Bloomberg to an interim Civil Court term in July. She had been presiding in Family Court. Before joining the bench, Judge Ruiz served as general counsel to the Harlem Dowling West Side Center for Children and Family Services and as deputy commissioner, Division of Family Permanency Services for New York City's Administration for Children's Services. Judge Sherman worked with the Legal Aid Society for 26 years before becoming the executive director and founder of The Children's Law Center.
