Simpson Thacher & Bartlett LLP announces that Sandeep (“Sandy“) Qusba has joined the firm's New York office as a partner in its Bankruptcy and Restructuring practice. Previously a partner at White & Case, Qusba's practice focuses on bankruptcy and out-of-court restructurings as well as distressed company acquisitions. His experience spans a wide range of industries including the healthcare, energy, automotive, manufacturing, telecommunications and other technology sectors.

Joseph Smolinsky has joined the New York office of Weil, Gotshal & Manges LLP as a partner in its Business Finance & Restructuring practice. Previously a partner at Chadbourne & Parke LLP, where he advised corporations, borrowers, lenders, investors and creditors on Chapter 11 restructuring cases, Smolinsky has been involved in a number of recent high profile cases, including TOUSA, Refco, Calpine and Mirant.

Stroock & Stroock & Lavan LLP has announced that Andrew P. DeNatale has rejoined the firm's Financial Restructuring Practice Group as Partner and Head of the Special Situations Lending Group. Formerly the co-head of White & Case's Financial Restructuring & Insolvency Group, DeNatale worked at Stroock from 1980 through 1991 and was promoted to Partner in 1984. He has served as counsel to a wide range of clients, including institutional lenders, unsecured creditors' committees, individual creditors (both secured and unsecured) and debtors.

The firm also announced that Daniel P. Ginsberg also moved from White and Case to Stroock, where he will join the Financial Restructuring Practice Group as Special Counsel. He has extensive experience representing both debtors and secured and unsecured creditors in Chapter 11 cases.

Jerry L. “Jay” Switzer, Jr. has joined the Chicago office of Polsinelli Shughart PC. He will practice in the areas of Bankruptcy and Financial Restructuring and Creditors Rights, Loan Enforcement and Creditor Bankruptcy Representation. Switzer is the latest in a series of attorneys to join the Chicago office of Polsinelli Shughart, which has grown from 19 to 26 attorneys in the last year.

Foley & Lardner LLP has named Mark L. Prager chair of the firm's Bankruptcy & Business Reorganizations Practice. Prager focuses on Chapter 11 reorganizations, litigation, transactions, regulatory and corporate finance matters. He also serves as the managing partner of the Chicago office of Foley & Lardner and on the firm's national management committee.

Proskauer Rose LLP has expanded its year-old Chicago office and Bankruptcy & Restructuring Practice Group with the addition of partners Jeff J. Marwil, (a member of this newsletter's Board of Editors), Mark K. Thomas and Paul V. Possinger. The three attorneys were formerly partners in Winston & Strawn's Restructuring and Insolvency Group, which Marwil co-chaired. Marwil currently serves as the sole managing member of the Bayou Group in its Chapter 11 cases and has devoted significant attention to other hedge funds in distress, including restructurings, wind-downs and liquidations. Thomas represents lenders, debtors and borrowers in Chapter 11 bankruptcy cases and out-of-court workouts and restructurings. Possinger's practice focuses on corporate reorganizations, creditors' rights and bankruptcy matters. He primarily represents financially troubled entities and senior, second-lien and mezzanine lenders in and out of bankruptcy in debt restructuring and reorganization, workouts, asset and going concern sales and litigation.
