Movers & Shakers

Law firm Venable recently announced the addition of former AOL Inc. chief counsel, Charles D. Curran, as a partner in its privacy and data security practice. Prior to joining Venable, Curran served as executive director and general counsel of the Network Advertising Initiative (NAI). Before NAI, Curran spent 12 years as in-house counsel at AOL, where he also managed the company's privacy and data security compliance programs and led AOL's anti-spam litigation efforts. Curran noted that his time at AOL taught him that “when it comes to technology, the cornerstone of effective legal advice is complete, end-to-end understanding of the life cycle of data collection and use on a particular platform.”

McDermott Will & Emery announced the expansion of the firm's Global Privacy and Cybersecurity practice with the arrival of distinguished cybersecurity and privacy lawyer Mark E. Schreiber. Schreiber will focus on cybersecurity, data breach response and global privacy coordination. He joins a team of more than 50 lawyers across the firm's global platform, including noted cybersecurity litigator, Michael Morgan, who recently joined the Los Angeles office and represents clients in class actions and other matters involving cybersecurity and privacy and has particular experience in advising clients on large data breaches.
