Create a Community to Connect and Empower

A few years ago, I was having coffee in Manhattan with my colleagues, Tim Baran and Nehal Madhani. We would meet periodically, but not regularly, whenever I ventured into the city. Our conversations were always great, but they were inconsistent. So, I suggested that we invite a few others and try to develop more of a schedule. Nehal offered to host in his office and the Legal Tech Mafia® was born.

That was in the spring of 2018 and we met about monthly until March of 2020. Over time, the group grew larger and law firms across New York City generously offered their conference space for the events. I was even able to host similar gatherings in Atlanta, Fort Lauderdale, London, Sydney and Tel Aviv.

Each attendee became part of two groups: those who attended the same breakfast and the broader collective of professionals who contributed to the entire initiative. We organically grew into a community.
