Twitter Chat Recap

September 01, 2020

On August 18, several members of Commercial Leasing Law & Strategy's Board of Editors and contributors to Law.com and our ALM sibling GlobeSt.com took part in a Twitter chat. The topic: "Do We Need Offices Anymore?" Panelists were asked to respond to seven questions on how office life at law firms has changed and what to expect in the future. Those following along weighed in as well. Among the highlights from our Board:

|
  • "An office is not just a place for logistics, but a place for collaboration and the feel-good connection with a client. Once social distancing is in the rear view mirror, clients will want that back." — Joseph Farca
  • "Office space will become more agile. Many law firms will have their staff either work remotely or in the office on a rotating basis. Further, many law firms will invest even more on cloud computing and storage, decreasing its physical footprint." — Alan Nochumson
  • "I see reconfiguring of old spaces and new leases prioritizing meeting spaces such as conference rooms and break rooms, while minimizing grand C-suite style offices. When the pandemic ends, virtual, WeWork-style co-working space will be well positioned to take off." — Joseph Farca

Fifth Circuit Rejects Majority 'Independent Economic Value' Test for Infringement Damages Image

Most of the federal circuit courts that have addressed what qualifies either as a "compilation" or as a single creative work apply an "independent economic value" analysis that looks at the market worth of the single creation as of the time when an infringement occurs.
