California Privacy Protection Agency Roster Set

By Mike Scarcella
April 01, 2021

On March 17, California named five members to the inaugural board of the California Privacy Protection Agency, a new entity created by voters in 2020 that will enforce the state's sweeping consumer privacy laws.

The appointees come from academia, state government and nonprofits. The five members will be charged with hiring an executive director for the new agency, adopting rules and enforcing the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) (2018) and the voter-approved California Privacy Rights Act of 2020.

Both laws set new rules for how companies can collect information about consumers and what they can do with that data. The new agency will assume many of the enforcement duties now handled by the attorney general's office.
