After nearly three decades with The Walt Disney Co., longtime general counsel Alan Braverman is stepping down from his post at the Burbank, CA-based entertainment and media giant at the end of the year, the company disclosed in a Securities and Exchange Commission filing. Braverman's departure coincides with the scheduled termination of his employment contract, according to the filing.
In a letter sent to Disney employees, Braverman expressed gratitude for the opportunities he's had with the company during his tenure, including his involvement in "deals that have transformed the Company — the acquisitions of Cap-Cities, Pixar, Marvel, Lucasfilm and 21st Century Fox …"
Disney Executive chairman Bob Iger and CEO Bob Chapek further detailed Braverman's "integral" role in Disney's expansion and transformation into the digital age, and described him as a "champion of skills-based volunteerism." "Equally important," they wrote, "he has been a key advocate of Disney's inclusion efforts, implementing programs to recruit and promote diverse legal talent."

But even though a landlord may agree to terminate a lease to regain control of a defaulting tenant's space without costly and lengthy litigation, typically a defaulting tenant that otherwise has no contractual right to terminate its lease will be in a much weaker bargaining position with respect to the conditions for termination.
