Though large and midsize law firms have improved their cybersecurity posture after years of headline-grabbing data breaches and growing client pressure, many were thrown off-guard by a pandemic-spurred remote transition. For some, it meant racing to shore up areas where security could no longer be taken for granted. In a dispersed workforce, after all, it's not possible to cordon off risk — staff are just in position to put their firms in more danger.
Firms are making sure their staff know the risk they pose to the organization — and the role they have to play in mitigating it. Since the pandemic began, many firms have undertaken a concerted and ongoing effort to instill vital cybersecurity practices among their broader workforce. In fact, the 2021 LTN Law Firm Tech Survey of 36 large law firms found that half recently increased internal cybersecurity training. But that's not the only change firms have had to make. Spurred in large part by increased client scrutiny and growing awareness of threats, many are also ramping up cybersecurity investments and leaning more on outsourced cybersecurity expertise.
