Ricky Martin's former manager claims the singer owes her more than $3 million in unpaid commissions, according to a lawsuit filed in Los Angeles Superior Court. Drucker v. Morales, CV21090.
The lawsuit complaint, filed by Venable attorneys, alleges that manager Rebecca Drucker played a critical role in protecting Martin's career, including when the songwriter/actor received a letter in September 2020 from "a highly-respected litigation attorney in Los Angeles" threatening him with a "potentially career-ending allegation" on behalf of a client.
Martin reportedly collapsed after reading the legal letter, and Drucker brought in "one of the top defense attorneys in Los Angeles," Drucker's suit against Martin claims. "Based on Rebecca's advice, Martin retained this prominent litigator to defend against this devastating claim," Drucker's complaint states. "Needless to say, the claim ultimately never saw the light of day. Once again, Rebecca saved Martin's career with the exceptional managerial and advisory services that she provided to him during this ordeal."

But even though a landlord may agree to terminate a lease to regain control of a defaulting tenant's space without costly and lengthy litigation, typically a defaulting tenant that otherwise has no contractual right to terminate its lease will be in a much weaker bargaining position with respect to the conditions for termination.
