White-Collar Enforcement Under the Biden Administration

After much saber-rattling, the Biden administration's focus on white-collar corporate compliance is finally coming into focus. Law firms and white-collar compliance experts have long warned the administration's ramped-up focus was coming, but the pandemic largely nixed any initiatives.

A spate of recent settlements coupled with the addition of a new white-collar leader at the U.S. Department of Justice is giving the public a look into what compliance will look like under Biden.

A recent $1.1 billion settlement resolving investigations into violations of the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act and a commodity price manipulation scheme with global mining and trading company Glencore gave the legal community a look at what the U.S. Department of Justice's compliance regime will look like nearly two years into the Biden administration. The government has announced a rash of corporate settlements as of late, with the billion-dollar deal being among the largest.
