AI Is Coming To Microsoft 365: What You Need to Know

By Ryan Hemmel
August 01, 2023

The explosion of artificial intelligence has undoubtedly been one of the biggest developments in the world of technology over the past year. Whether it's ChatGPT, Google's Bard, or image generation software such as Midjourney, it seems that every week comes with a new breakthrough in the field of AI. Over the next decade, AI-powered tools are set to transform the way we work, with OpenAI stating that 80% of workers in the U.S. will have 10% or more of their daily tasks affected by artificial intelligence.

For those using Microsoft 365, these tools are rapidly becoming a reality, as Microsoft has introduced and announced several applications with AI-driven components, including Microsoft Viva, Microsoft Teams Premium, and Microsoft Copilot. These tools seek to reduce the amount of time employees spend on menial, repetitive tasks such as drafting emails or searching for information, freeing them up to focus on more creative and strategic work. Per Microsoft's 2023 Work Trend Index Report, 68% of those surveyed indicated that they did not have enough uninterrupted focus time during their workday. While there is some trepidation over the possibility of AI replacing jobs, with 49% of those surveyed in the Work Trend Index indicating concern about that possibility, there is even more enthusiasm over its potential to lighten workloads, as 70% said that they would delegate as much work as possible to AI tools.

Microsoft Viva: Keeping Workers Engaged

Microsoft Viva is a suite of products that was first launched in 2021 with the aim of helping corporations and their employees adapt to the remote work environment. Viva consists of numerous applications, including Viva Engage, which is focused on employee productivity and well-being; Viva Learning, which is focused on employee education and growth; Viva Topics, which organizes content across the organization; and Viva Sales, which helps sales teams foster stronger relationships and close deals with prospective clients.
